| “No matter how old or young you are, it is never too late nor too early to discover the joy of dancing!” Miss Deb began All That Jazz twelve years ago with the desire to enable all children, regardless of experience or age, to learn the art of dance. Having now grown into a thriving and lively dance community, we still pride ourselves on having that same philosophy. Our class size is limited to 12-14 for classes with children under the age of 5 and 16-18 for all other classes. We also have assistants available for many of the larger classes. Our Mommy and Me classes start at age 2 and we have many different class offerings all the way through high school. We feel very strongly that children even as “old” as teenagers should be encouraged to start dancing, thus, we have beginning hip hop, jazz, tap, and ballet classes for middle and high school students. Our program is “a la carte” style. Although we encourage all dancers to take ballet, it is not required. Some of our students take as many as 7 hours of dance a week, while others come in for 1 hour. We have found that a love for dance can be nurtured and fostered in many different ways. Please call or email Miss Deb to discuss which and how many classes would work best for your child.
HIGHLIGHTED CLASSES FOR 2011-2012 SCHOOL YEAR:
DRAMA FOR DANCERS: This NEW class is for boys and girls in early elementary school. It will focus on beginning theatrical skills, such as improvisation, communication, and creativity all within the format of drama games and informal skits. Although dance moves will be incorporated into every class, this is not a performing class and is aimed to be used in conjunction with other dance technique classes. This class will be offered in 8 week workshops and is really an excellent introduction to drama and theater in a very safe and fun environment.
BOYS AND GIRLS HIP HOP/TUMBLING/CREATIVE MOVEMENT: This NEW class is geared for boys and girls ages 4-5 and it is an excellent way to introduce this age group to the wonderful fun of dance class! Students will learn basic tumbling, as well as age-appropriate hip hop moves. Set to peppy, upbeat music, this class will keep its energetic young students moving from the very beginning to the very end of each and every class. Only offered on Sundays from 3:00-4:00, this class is available as a 12 week session to start off with in September.
BOYS ONLY BREAKDANCE/HIP HOP: Due to the popularity of our Boys and Girls Breakdance/Hip Hop class, we are now offering the same class but for BOYS ONLY, ages 10 and up. These lucky boys will be learning the awesome art of
breakdancing and combining it with the fun style of hip hop. Students will have the option of
signing up for either a 12 week session or for the whole year. This challenging
class could potentially have the boys mastering “head spins” by the end of the
year!
ZUMBA: This wonderful new trend in dance aerobics is now being offered at All That Jazz on Sunday mornings from 9:30-10:30. Zumba is an excellent work-out, no matter how much dance experience you may have. Although offered primarily for adults, children over the age of 13 are also encouraged to come check out this fusion of hip hop, Latin, jazz, and aerobics! This hour long class is conducted to a playlist that includes such energetic and varied songs such as Footloose, Walking on Sunshine, Raise Your Glass and Waka Waka. Students are guaranteed to walk out of each and every class with a huge smile on their (very sweaty!) face. Classes are continually offered on a drop-in basis of $20.00/class or call Miss Deb to find out when our next 8 week session of $140.00 is beginning.
TROUPE ATJ: These classes are designed for those students, ages 5-12,
who wish to have more opportunities to perform throughout the year. These classes will start learning short
dances in the fall and then they will be able to perform them at local nursing
homes, community centers, and even schools! This is a wonderful opportunity for our children to be able
to “give back” to the local community and have fun dancing at the same time!
CONTEMPORARY: Popularized by “So You Think You Can Dance,” this technique is being offered in conjunction with our advanced Modern class, as
well as part of our Sunday 8 week workshops. Students will learn how to move their bodies in an “organic,
feel good” manner. This class will
be highly focused on technique, while still allowing the dancers to have fun!
FAIRY PRINCESS DANCE: For 3-5 year olds. This new special class is only available at All That Jazz! In addition to learning the basic fundamentals of ballet, the little girls will have the fun experience of pretending to be dancing princesses, flying like Tinkerbell, and singing and dancing along to their favorite Disney songs. Props such as fairy wings, dress-up tutus, and, of course, princess dresses, will all be provided. This class is being offered in 12 week sessions.
"MOSTLY BOYS" BREAKDANCE/HIP HOP- This hugely popular class is once again being offered for
boys and girls, 1st-4th graders, who are interested in
learning the awesome art of breakdancing and combining it with the fun style of
hip hop. This class will also have
the option of either a 12 week session or signing up for the whole year. Watch
out MTV, because these students could be forming our very own All That Jazz
Dance Crew!
SUNDAY WORKSHOPS- Offered in 8 week sessions, classes will range from introductory sessions of jazz, hip hop, tap and ballet for children ages 7-11 to specialty classes of JazzFunk/Contemporary, Lyrical Hip Hop and Tap Jamz for children ages 12 and up. These new workshops are geared towards students with very busy schedules but who still very much wish to fit in more dance classes, as well as those students who just wish to "try out" several kinds of dance technique before making a year-long commitment.
MOMMY & ME: For 2 year olds only. Moms and toddlers explore music and dance coordination while using fun props such as “magic wands,” hula-hoops, and scarves.
CREATIVE MOVEMENT: For 2-3 year olds. The fundamentals of ballet are taught here, but classes are still primarily focused on movement and dancing to lively age-appropriate music.
PRE-BALLET/TAP: For 2-5 year olds. Children begin to learn more of the technique of ballet and rudimentary tap, while still having fun using creative dance props and playing some dance games (for example, classes still usually end with freeze dance).
BALLET: Ballet classes follow a traditional format, with exercises at the barre, center work, and progressions across the floor. While emphasis is placed on proper technique and body placement, students are also encouraged to progress at a personal and comfortable pace.
POINTE: Pointe class is offered by permission only for students with significant ballet experience. This half hour class is designed to be taken in conjuction with the Advanced Ballet class.
TAP: Tap classes focus on both rhythm tap and musical theater style tap. A capella rhythms are taught in most classes, followed by technical progressions across the floor and finishing with a fun and rhythmically challenging combination.
JAZZ: Jazz classes always begin with an aerobic, age-appropriate warm-up, including stretches and some conditioning elements, followed by progressions across the floor and finishing with a combination that incorporates skills practiced during warm-up and across the floor. Students learn many different genres of jazz dance, including musical theater, swing, funk and even a little bit of hip hop.
HIP HOP: Hip Hop classes are geared towards hip hop for the dancer, rather than hip hop as pure street funk. Classes are very energetic and begin with a proper warm-up, including stretches and conditioning, followed by short combinations across the floor and always finishing with a fun and very “MTV-like” combination.
JAZZSWING: This class is a combination of jazz, hip-hop, and swing dancing. Lively music and up-beat moves dominate this unique and aerobically challenging class. In a typical class, students will learn partner swing dancing, as well as proper jazz technique across the floor and finish with an energetic center combination.
MODERN/LYRICAL: This class concentrates on the technique of modern dance, with a particular focus on the Horton method, the technique made famous by Alvin Ailey. Available only for middle and high school students with permission from Miss Deb, this class has a Pilates-based warm-up interwoven with traditional modern dance moves, progressions across the floor that may involve actual floor-work, and lyrical (a blending of ballet and jazz) combinations at the end.
FUNKY JAZZ: This class is an awesome combination of Hip Hop and Jazz. For the older students, this class will teach some of the fundamental technique of jazz dance mixed with the exciting world of today's MTV culture. This class promises to get students sweating, "lock and popping," as well as pirouetting by years end! For the younger students, this class will also teach some of the fundamentals of jazz dance, but we will mix those fundamentals with the fun moves of High School Musical dances, for example.
MUSICAL THEATER DANCE: We are now offering this class for children still in elementary school! We have designed this special class to focus on the many aspects of musical theater; e.g., auditioning techniques, singing and dancing simultaneously, tap dancing, acting, and many other aspects that go into becoming a "triple threat" on stage.
TAP JAMZ: This class is for middle and high school students with limited tap experience. This class will focus on a more "hip hop" style of tap. Students will learn proper tap technique and then incorporate the steps into a fun, challenging, and "Savion Glover style" combination.
LYRICAL BALLET: This class is for middle and high school students with limited ballet experience. We have designed this class for the older student who may have a lot of jazz and hip hop experience but who has never really taken ballet or modern. This class will begin with a traditional ballet barre and students will learn classical ballet technique. Center combinations will then have a more lyrical (blending of ballet and jazz) aspect to them. This is an excellent opportunity for older dancers to learn classical technique without all of the rigidity of a complete ballet class.
CLASS LEVEL IDENTIFICATION METHOD
