Choosing a dance studio comes with lots of questions- especially if it’s your child’s first activity. Below you’ll find honest answers to everything families typically want to know before registering.
GETTING STARTED
What age can children start dance classes?
Children can begin at All That Jazz starting at age 2. Our youngest dancers join creative movement classes designed to introduce them to music, rhythm, and basic coordination in a warm, fun environment.
From there, dancers grow through three programs designed to meet them exactly where they are:
- Grow With Us — early childhood dance classes for ages 2–7
- Explore With Us — elementary school dance classes for ages 7–11
- Shine With Us — middle and high school dance classes for ages 11–18
“Thank you for creating such a warm, loving, FUN environment for our children. I was able to connect with some parents of older dancers who rave about your program so I know that your philosophy stays true through the years. To see such talented dancers have such a love of your studio warms my heart. We are so grateful to have found you and are looking forward to an amazing year.” — Megan Olowinski
Does my child need dance experience to start?
Not at all. Many dancers join All That Jazz with zero previous experience, and we welcome brand-new dancers at every age- including middle and high school. Our teachers are experienced at helping each child learn at their own pace while building real skills and genuine confidence.
Everyone starts somewhere, and we make sure every dancer feels comfortable and proud of their progress from day one.
What if my child is nervous, shy, or unsure about trying dance?
This is one of the most common things parents tell us when they first reach out- and it’s completely normal. Our teachers are experienced at helping hesitant dancers feel safe and supported. Most children who start the year unsure finish the year asking if it’s a dance day.
“We really were not sure how our daughter would do in dance this year, and in fact, all along I had said she would probably be the kid crying on the side and not dancing — but seeing her SHINE on stage made us smile so hard it hurt. It may have taken her 8 months to come out of her shell, but the growth she made is so crazy to even try and comprehend. The first thing she asked the next day was ‘Mama, is it a dance day again today?'” — Monique Gagnon Magno
If your child is on the fence, the best first step is to reach out to Miss Deb. She’s happy to talk through which class might be the gentlest, most comfortable entry point for your child specifically.
Can my child try a class before committing?
We want every family to feel confident before they register. If you’d like to talk through which class would be the right fit before signing up, Miss Deb is always happy to help- by phone, email, or at our Fall Open House. Reach her at 617-641-0784 or [email protected].
Do you offer dance classes for teens?
Yes. We have a full program, Shine With Us! for middle and high school dancers ages 11–18, including jazz, ballet, tap, hip hop, contemporary, lyrical, musical theater, commercial dance, and more.
Some teen dancers take one class for fun and fitness. Others take multiple classes each week to develop their technique. Both are equally welcome.
“My daughter and a friend joined a class as high school students, and even though some kids had been dancing there since before kindergarten, they felt welcome and accepted. The recital was honestly one of the best I’ve ever attended.” — Christine Power Thielman
CLASS OPTIONS & SCHEDULING
What types of dance classes do you offer?
We offer a wide variety of styles for every age group:
For ages 2–7 (Grow With Us): Creative movement, Twirling Tykes, Turning Tots, Fairytale Dance, Mini Movers, Shining Stars — classes designed to build coordination, confidence, and love of music through age-appropriate themes and play.
For ages 7–11 (Explore With Us): Ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, lyrical, musical theater, and combination classes (jazz/tap, ballet/tap, hip hop/jazz, lyrical/musical theater). Younger dancers in this group often start with a combo class to explore multiple styles in one session.

Not sure which style is right for your child? Use our Find the Right Class Guide or reach out to Miss Deb directly.
How many classes should my child take each week?
Most younger and newer dancers begin with one class per week, which works beautifully. As dancers become more engaged and want to explore more styles, many add a second or third class.
Our schedule is designed to make back-to-back classes easy- for example, lyrical followed by jazz, or hip hop followed by ballet, so if your dancer wants more, the day works with you. Some of our more advanced dancers take up to 12 classes per week; others happily take just one or two throughout high school. There’s no pressure either way.
Can my dancer also play sports or do other school activities?
Absolutely. Many of our dancers participate in sports, school theater, music programs, and other activities alongside their classes at All That Jazz. We love that our students have full, varied lives.
Our schedule is designed to give families flexibility, and Miss Deb is always happy to help you figure out what combination works for your family’s week.
Do you offer summer dance camps?
Yes! Each summer we offer themed dance camps for children, designed to keep dancers active, creative, and engaged. Summer camps are also a great way for new families to experience All That Jazz in a lower-commitment setting before the school year.
“I wanted to share our experience with the summer classes as many people might not even know they exist. My daughter found them to be super fun with the same great instructors. They gave her the opportunity to meet new dancers and experiment with new styles. I highly recommend trying them out.” — Linda Swain
Visit Summer Camps 2026 for details.
What happens if my child has to miss a class?
Life happens- illness, vacations, school events. Students are granted one make-up class in the fall and one in the spring (prior to April 1). All absences are to be logged in our parent portal and Miss Deb also works with families as much as possible when extended absences occur.
